Summer Awad is a spoken word poet and Knoxville native who goes by her stage moniker, Uncensored. She is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, where she earned a personalized degree in Literary Activism. Her mother is from Jackson County, Tennessee, and her father was born in Nablus in the West Bank of the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Her bicultural upbringing inspired her to write a play entitled, WALLS, and to become involved in advocacy for other social justice issues, including sexual and reproductive health.
